What is Blended Learning?

Blended education is a style of learning that combines classroom and online education. Sometimes the phrases “hybrid learning” or “multi-media learning” or “flipping the classroom” are used instead.

Regardless of what you call it, this style of education is a formal education program in which a student learns, at least in part, through online delivery of content and instruction, with some element of student control over time, place, path, or pace.

How does the JOLT program incorporate Blended Learning?

The JOLT program provides the infrastructure for personalized online learning, with teachers serving as mentors. Students in the JOLT program can vary the level of Blended Learning they experience based on the classes they choose and the education plan they design.

For example, students opting for a low level of Blended Learning are known as full-time online students. These students are not required to report to the school campus unless they choose to come in for support. Comparatively, students opting for a high level of Blended Learning, divide their course work between online learning, which can be done in the JOLT Lab or anywhere the students have Internet access, and a more traditional setting, which relies on face-to-face learning held on the school campus.

Why Blended Learning?

The reason blended learning is so important, is because it makes way for personalized learning opportunities. Click here for an explanation of personalized learning. Humans are naturally diverse, curious and creative. No two are exactly the same. Therefore, no two humans learn the same way. Each should have a learning path and pace that meets their needs.
